Sabrina Stewart of Duncan holds the ball in looking to drive the ball to the hoop in a game earlier this season as the Lady Demons will start their playoff run Friday evening in El Reno.

After a huge Senior Night victory for the Duncan Lady Demons on Feb. 15 over a high-ranked Noble Lady Bears, the playoff run begins Thursday evening at El Reno against Piedmont High School.

The Lady Demons had their biggest offensive night of the year last Thursday, getting a 61-point effort and come into regional play with a record of 8-15 on the season.

Lady Demons head coach Mike Fitts said his team is getting ready for Piedmont and has been focusing on keeping things simple for the first playoff game.

“We have basically been working on a lot of what they do defensively: taking our offense and showing their tendencies and the way the will look defensively,” Fitts said. “We look at their offense and what they want to do with it; just those basic things. You want to give the [players] information, but not overload them.”

Duncan will have to face a team who is well coached and the Lady Demons will have to rely on their senior heavy team.

Fitts said Duncan is ready for the first game of the playoffs. The senior starters for the Lady Demons will need to be a big part of the game plan, according to Fitts.

“Part of it is they need to just go play. Everything that we have done this season has been geared for playoffs,” he said. “We played in tournaments and play all these different teams over the course of the year so when you get to playoffs and see something that you hopefully have seen before.”

With the first game of playoffs being a win or go home elimination game, Fitts said his team will have the same mentality as they always do and that is to take one game at a time.

“I think they know that if you win this you advance and I don’t see us looking to Saturday because Duncan hasn’t been to a Saturday in a few years,” Fitts said. “There is no looking ahead for anything as far as Saturday goes and if we are fortunate and play well enough and all those things we will worry about Saturday when Friday rolls around.”

The Lady Demons game against Piedmont is set for 6 p.m. Friday and, if they advance, they will play the winner of El Reno and Guymon Monday at 6:30 p.m.
