OKLAHOMA CITY — Win championships — that’s what the Glover family does. On Saturday at State Fair
Arena, Kayci Glover joined the long lineage of title winners in her family when Class 4A No. 1 Fort Gibson hauled in its fourth championship in eight years with a 55-41 rout of second-ranked Harrah.
Glover’s sisters, Jodi and Allie, had previously won titles for the Tigers, and her mom, Liz, became a star in the state by winning championships and scoring points at Roff.
Now Kayci is part of the club.
“I had one last chance to do it,” Glover said after scoring 15 points for Fort Gibson. “So now it feels good.”
Leading the way for Fort Gibson (27-3) was Zoe’ Shieldnight with 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists. It was also the Tigers’ first championship under first-year coach Chuck London, who took over for Jerry Walker.
“Coach London stepped up to the plate, and we knew he could do it,” Glover said. “I love him, and he did a great job with us.”
Erika Ankney had 15 points for Harrah (25-4), and Ali Brzozowki added 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Panthers trailed 32-30, but a 23-11 burst from Fort Gibson in the fourth quarter put the game away.
“For us, it’s toughness, believing in each other and fighting to the very end,” London said of pulling away late. “That’s’ what we’ve done all year.”
